SketchUp

The SketchUp layout I created was for the "ideal" soccer stadium. Coaching is my form of teaching, and the field and our facilities are my "classroom". As a ex-player I realized that it was incredibly important to have the athletic training room as well as the locker room in the same area or building. Getting ready for games you are always in and out of the locker room and training room so having them right next to each other makes the most sense. Second, I feel like it is important to have the coaches offices next to the field, we obviously spend most if not, all of our day there so having it close and accessible is for the best. Included in the offices building is the "team room and film room" this is where the players get to hang out, spend time, and learn. Inside the locker room is where the other teaching goes down, before games we go through our game plan, draw on the board what we are looking to do and ask the players to actively engage as well as reiterate what they may have learned in the previous week and practice.

I think SketchUp is a brilliant tool to use in the classroom. At first I found it a little bit difficult because I couldn't figure out how to get it out of 3-D mode. Once I figured that out, it was simple! SketchUp provides students with the ability to be creative and think critically. They can easily create 2-D as well as 3-D models and blueprints to show layouts for whatever they might be using it for. This piece of technology would be great in a class like this one, where we are challenged to figure out what our perfect classroom would look like. It would also be great in a business type class, how would you lay out your business, or if you had to create a mall or something along those lines what would it look like? Also a fantastic tool for creating layouts for architects!
